Are you a sports fan? If so, what is your favourite team? Yes, Liverpool
What causes are you passionate about? I’ve never really thought about this, but as I’m getting older I’m becoming increasingly aware of our impact on the planet, so as an individual and a business I am trying to play our part in keeping greenhouse gas emissions to a minimum.
What is an interesting fact about you? I was born in Malta! (already give that away though)
A bit about your job role
What is your current job title? Director (Mechanical)
What other job titles have you had in your career? Paper Boy
Why did you choose to work in your industry? When I left school I had an idea that I wanted to be in the construction industry however didn’t know specifically what I wanted to do, within the local careers centre I completed a questionnaire and it suggested I become a Building Services Engineer, so that’s what I did!
Why do you like your job? I enjoy the diversity of challenges we face each day and the fact that no day is the same, I enjoy building systems & procedures and looking where efficiencies can be made within DME to ultimately improve our end product provided to our valued clients, the people I work with are ok too 😊
How would you describe your career in three words? Gone very fast!
What makes you unique in your profession? I like to think I’m level headed and think things through before acting, rarely letting things get on top of me, the construction industry can be a high pressure industry at times so I try my best to live by this rule.
What is your favourite thing about your career or industry? I enjoy building lasting relationships with clients by treating them with care, respect and going the extra mile at all times.
If you could give a younger person career advice, what would it be? Always push yourself out of your comfort zone as this is when you learn the most.
What is your favourite memory from your career so far? I have a lot of good memories from my time with a large M&E contractor (HE Simm) (probably because of all of the hospitality events we used to get taken on!!), in addition to this one particular memory that sticks in my mind is when they provided me with the opportunity to run and build the Maintenance department at the tender age of 22, 10 years later I believed I had gained enough experience to set up the Mechanical Division within DME, as I said always push yourself outside of your comfort zone!!
